SELF-CARE IS HEALTHCARE

Updated: Oct 10, 2022

What is self-care & how does it relate to healthcare?

Self-care is defined as "providing adequate attention to one's own physical & psychological (mental) wellness." The definition of "adequate" may vary from person to person or even day to day, but ultimately can be determined by however much time or attention it takes for you to feel a state of wellbeing. Some days it may only take a few minutes of deep breathing or simply stepping outside for some fresh air. Other days may require a little more. With all of the chaos & drama in the world today, many people are feeling the negative effects of stress. Stress contributes to many health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, ulcers depression & anxiety. -Mayo Clinic-

Engaging in a self-care routine such as taking a relaxing bath with bath salts or bubble bath, listening to soothing music by candlelight or even having a regular skincare regimen has been clinically proven to reduce or eliminate anxiety & depression, reduce stress, improve concentration, minimize frustration & anger, increase happiness, improve energy & more! From a physical health perspective, self-care has been clinically proven to reduce heart disease, stroke & cancer. While many of us have a lot going on in our lives, it's imperative that we take time everyday to relax & unwind.
